To our delight, Aberdeen & Stonehaven Yacht Club (ASYC) were selected by a panel of experts as the Scottish finalist for the RYA and Yacht & Yachting Club of the Year 2022. It is now down to YOU to help us fly the flag for Scottish sailing by winning the national final. Please vote for us -

At ASYC our aim is to allow everyone to safely enjoy the thrills and spills of dinghy sailing:

  • Our community of 250 sailors is very welcoming to new members and offers an extensive and varied club boat fleet free to hire in their first year. We offer both sociable sailing and competitive club racing.
  • Beginner adult sailors can complete a course with the Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust, then join ASYC for just £10. And we have special beginner sailing sessions open to all.
  • Our 90 plus juniors are enjoying the progression from lessons to our race group, the opportunity to become assistant instructors and to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme
  • Our approach to whole family involvement has produced a very high return rate from Juniors – with land and sea-based support roles adding to every family’s fun.
  • Students are always welcome with FREE membership if they are member of Aberdeen Uni sailing club or continue membership with their old home club.
  • We offer a unique combination of inland freshwater sailing in springtime at Loch of Skene then summer to autumn outings in Stonehaven bay.

Welcome to ASYC

Aberdeen and Stonehaven Yacht Club, located in the North East of Scotland is an active, friendly dinghy sailing club with a competitive racing program, family sailing and a strong junior program.

We have the unique advantage of sailing in two very different locations during the year. From March to June we sail at the Loch of Skene, near Westhill. The Loch provides an ideal location for both learning to sail and competitive racing. From June to November the club moves to Stonehaven bay with tides and waves presenting a very different challenge from the inland loch.

ASYC welcomes new members at any time of the year, whatever your sailing abilities. The club owns 24 dinghies, ranging from Optimist, Topper and RSFeva for Juniors to Laser, Blaze and Laser 2000 which are free to hire during the first year of membership (thereafter for a small charge) - so no need to own a boat before straight away. There are many other types of dinghy sailed at the club, bigger classes are laser, Solo, RS400, RS200 and Blazes.

A Cup of coffee a week - membership for adults in £110 per year, plus 3 rescue boat duties. Under 18 and students in full time education are £35 for the year. Any student who is already a member of another sailing club can join in with racing for free. Come and join us...

Join the club

ASYC always looks to welcome new members - from avid racers to those new to sailing. Membership fees can be paid quarterly to spread the load and boat hire in the first year of joining is free. We are a RYA recognized training centres and offer Junior dinghy sailing courses and Powerboat driving lessons to club members. A very busy dinghy racing circuit and an active social program keep us busy. Come and join us for a test sail any time between March and November by contacting
