Training at ASYC

Training for club members

The sailing club is an RYA recognised training centre for dinghy sailing and power boating. We extend our warm welcome to all those that want to learn to sail or improve their sailing techniques.

Beginner sailors (RYA Stage 2 or equivalent), are encouraged to join in with "Novice Racing". Once adults and juniors have reached a competency equivalent to RYA Sailing Stage / Level 3 they can join our racing program. The club also welcomes any sailors who can sail around a race course to join in with our weekly program of races. During our sailing season we run occasional training events on special topics such as "sailing with Spinnakers" or "laser clinic" depending on demand and interest.

We offer Junior training sessions between Easter and the summer holidays. See the Junior Section below for more information. For adult lessons and Junior lessons out with the ASYC Junior program the club recommends the Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust

ASYC offer several RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses and occasionally RYA Safety boat courses, to ensure that we have the best safety fleet for our dinghy racing possible. This is restricted to club members only and we ask for help with manning the safety fleet.

Adult lessons: ASYC currently does NOT offer adult beginner sailing lessons, but we know a place who does. The charity Aberdeenshire sailing trust offer sessions for both adults and children at Loch Skene (same location as ASYC) from April to end June, as well as at their base with Peterhead sailing club. https://www.aberdeenshiresailing.org/sailing
