Famous throughout the land - our Junior lesson program gets everyone involved. We only have one set of Junior lessons a year. The 9 sessions include a Junior regatta at Loch Skene in late May. Kids love these sessions and many return for many years. Sessions are taught in small groups, led by a dinghy instructor and with the help of assistant instructors - experienced Juniors who love to be involved, as well as parents manning the rescue boats and helping on the beach. We use our 6 club Optimists and 9 Toppers that are free to use, but kids can sail their own boats if desired. As the program is entirely volunteer run, we ask parents to stick around and get involved. Registration for the Junior sessions opens in late January till late February with preference given to returners and existing club members, but we usually find room for many new members too.
Junior summer week
From Monday to Friday, during the summer holidays, we all gather in Stonehaven for our fabulous Junior summer week. Sea, and, Sailing and lots of fun are on the menu and even the adults look forward to having a few days worth of playing about. This is only open to kids in the Junior program.
Race group
Experienced Juniors earn their racing stripes and are invited to join in with all club racing. During the Junior lesson program, the Sunday afternoon club racing sessions feature a race group coaching session, once again staffed by volunteers.
Duke of Edinburgh program
ASYC has recently become a centre to offer Duke of Edinburgh activities. Many Juniors volunteer their time teaching younger kids during the lesson program and others help out during Novice racing and club racing, or help maintain our extensive club boat fleet. Sailing can also be used for the skills and sports sections. A silver expedition with dinghy cruising is planned for the summer of 2020.
